Obituary

Late in the evening of Saturday, February 25, 2023, Mary Inez Bozeman Hamlin, 91, joined her Lord and Savior and beloved husband in heaven. Mary was born to the late Annie B. and Luke Bozeman on July 25, 1931. She married her childhood sweetheart; Olin Hamlin and they went on to have five children whom they loved dearly. From there, their family grew to include twelve grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. They were happily married for seventy-five years upon the death of Olin just a few short weeks preceding Mary. In addition to these, she is survived by one remaining brother; and children-in-law. Mary was a loving mother and devoted wife. As a pastor’s wife, she faithfully ministered to those under their care in the churches they served. Mary played both the organ and piano, whichever was needed at a moment’s notice. She worked at Dodge County Hospital for 15 years as a ward clerk. Later in life, Mary and Olin moved to Tifton, where Olin pastored at Zion Hope Baptist Church. When Mary wasn’t practicing her music or helping serve those in their church community, she could be found helping Olin with their small vegetable garden or preserving the fruits of their labor. Mary’s favorite spot outside was among her many beautiful flowers in which she loved to grow. Upon her husband’s retirement in the ministry, they moved back to one of their first hometowns after marriage, Eastman, Ga, where they attended First Baptist Church. Mary is preceded by the death of her husband, Reverend Olin Hamlin; her son, Steve Hamlin; daughters-in-law, Janet and Debbie; and several brothers and sisters. Visitation with Mary’s family will be Tuesday, February 28, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Eastman. The funeral service celebrating her life will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. Following the service, Mary will be laid to rest in Orphans Cemetery in Dodge County.
