Funeral services for Deborah G. Sawyer, who passed away at home surrounded by family on January 27, 2024 will be held Monday, January 29, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church. The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be private in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Debbi was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and was a graduate of Cochran High School's class of 1972 and Georgia Southern University. She was a retired teacher from the Bleckley county school system where she cherished the relationships she had with her students and co-teachers. Debbi loved writing, gardening, antiquing, and going to the beach with her family. Debbi's family was one of her greatest joys, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William R. and Louise Robinson Giddens, and a brother, Ray Giddens of Cochran. During her battle with cancer, she and her family compiled "Bringing Hope," a scripture devotional booklet for cancer patients and caregivers, and copies were distributed to patients at cancer treatment centers. This devotional was a step in her family's journey to comfort others with the same comfort and hope that God had given them during her illness. Survivors include her husband; daughters; three grandchildren; a brother, and many beloved extended family members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, 1100 Macedonia Church Road, Cochran, GA 31014.
