Obituary
MR. BOBBY SPENCER GRIFFIN, age 81, of Chester, GA, died Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Fairview Park Hospital, in Dublin, GA.
​Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 10, at Chester Baptist Church, with Rev. Sterling Averett and Rev. Ricky Gilmore officiating, with interment in Middle Ground Church Cemetery.
Bobby was born in Eastman, GA, a member of Chester Baptist Church, and a 1960 graduate of Dodge County High School. He later attended Middle Georgia College, where he played baseball, and then earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Georgia Southern College. He furthered his education at the University of Georgia, where he earned his master’s and specialist degrees in education. Bobby began his career as a teacher and coach at Chester Elementary School and later served as an assistant principal at Eastman Elementary. He served as principal of Dodge Elementary before becoming principal of South Dodge Elementary School and finished his career of over thirty-seven years as Dodge County School Superintendent. Bobby was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the Air National Guard after twenty-seven years of faithful service. He was a charter member of the Chester Lions Club, an avid sports fan, coin collector, and owner and instructor for “Papa G’s†Driving School. Bobby was the son of the late Eva Barrs Griffin and John B. Griffin.
​He is survived by his Wife of 55 years; Daughter; Grandchildren; Sister; Brother; Nieces and Nephews; Great-Nieces and Nephews; Several Cousins.
​The family may be contacted at the Griffin residence and will receive friends in Southerland Funeral Chapel from 6:00PM-8:00PM Friday, February 9. In addition to flowers, the family requests contributions to the Chester Lions Club, Christian Life Center, Chester Baptist Church, or Gideons International Bible Fund.
