Obituary

MRS. DOROTHY “DOT” PARKERSON BLAND, age 96, of Monroe, GA, formerly of Eastman, died Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Piedmont Walton Hospital in Monroe. Funeral services were held at 2:00PM Saturday, May 11, at Southerland Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Jerry Peele officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Bland was a native of Eastman and moved to Conyers in 1989. She was a graduate of Eastman High School, a member of Eastman First Baptist Church, and a homemaker. She was a longtime supporter of Eastman First Baptist Church, a devout Christian woman, and a former GA leader, WMU member, and DAR member. Dot was daughter of the late Gertrude Wade Parkerson and William “Bill” Daniel Parkerson, widow of Frederick Hemming Bland, III, and was preceded in death by 5 Siblings, William Parkerson, Herman Parkerson, Avery Parkerson, Eugenia Baldwin, and Clifford Harrison “Bo” Parkerson. She is survived by: Daughter – Barbara Malcom (Bob) of Monroe; Son – Frederick Hemming Bland, IV (Janet) of Lawrenceville; 4 Grandchildren – Christopher Bland (Tiffney), Craig Bland (Ana), Debbie Whatley (Mike), and Michael Malcom (Meredith); 6 Great-Grandchildren – Michael, John, Anna, Eliza, Camille, and Abigail; Several Nieces and Nephews. Serving as pallbearers were Ken Hall, Jimmy Cofield, Culver Jordan, Dan McCranie, Allen Long, Dubee Coffee, and Rex Blankenship. Andrea McCranie was the musician for the funeral service.
