Obituary

William D. Peacock was born on August 25, 1899, by natural bith. His parents were William L. Peacock and Nancy Harrell. William grew up with six brothers, one sister, and two half-sisters. He had some education. Religion played a very important part in his life. He, like most of the Peacocks, was a freewillBaptist. After their marriage in 1918, the couple lived in Mt. Ararat Community. William farmed with a mule. He would break up the land, plant the corn seed in the corners of three foot squares, and plow the middles with a middle buster both length and cross ways. He would continue to plow the corn until it was almost mature. From 1920 to 1932, with the birth of Angielene, Josie Mae had given birth to 8 children. In the summer of 1932, the family moved to a house outside of Chauncey. All of the children, except Junior, went to Chauncy High School. After Josie Mae's death, all the children moved away but Vesta. Son went to live with his uncle Irvin and aunt Lucy. Carlton went to live with his uncle Leonard and Aunt Lollie. Junior went to live with Sister and Claude. Angeileen went to live with Ophelia and Fred. Vesta stayed to take care of William. William married Ida Mae Nixon in the summer of 1942. Soon after, the couple moved to Brunswick. William worked in the shipyard. He didn't like it in Brunswick. On Jan 15, 1943, he filed for a delayed birth certificate that he needed to start work at Robins AFB. He worked there until his retirement in 1965. In 1965, William and Ida Mae moved back to Dodge County. He bought a nine acre tract of land outside of Chauncey. He lived there the rest of his life. He farmed the land with a mule for several years. During this time, he was a member of the Sugar Creek Congregational Methodist Church.
